Applied Design Research: A Mosaic of 22 Examples Experiences and Interpretations Focussing on Bridging the Gap between Practice and Academics

Researchers study the world as it is. Designers want to change the world. Applied design research is a form of practice-oriented research that integrates both approaches to gain new knowledge and develop practical solutions. But how do you do that, seeing that design and research differ significantly and meet different standards? This book is not a recipe book, but it does offer a glimpse into the kitchen of 22 professors at various universities of applied sciences. They apply applied design research in various areas, ranging from healthcare to retail. Each contribution offers a different perspective and is illustrated by relevant examples. None of the contributions offers a complete explanation, but together, they provide a rich picture of what applied design research is, how to use it and what you can expect from it.

The international version of the book will be published by Taylor & Francis Publishers, and is expected to be available (digitally) as an Open Access publication from May 2022, or as a printed book through the publisher.
